During post-doctoral research in Chemical Biology at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal, Dr. Abhishek focused on the design, synthesis & physico-chemical characterization of pro-drugs and their polymeric nano-conjugates for drug delivery. Dr. Abhishek earned his Ph.D. in Bio-Science with a specialization in Nanomedicine from Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi. His doctoral research concentrated on the formulation, characterization and targeted drug delivery of nanoparticles and polymeric nano-conjugates. His work aimed to enhance the efficacy and specificity of anticancer treatments by delivering drugs directly to tumor cells, thereby minimizing side effects and improving patient outcomes. Leveraging his extensive expertise in nanotechnology and chemical biology, Dr. Abhishek has developed nano & microparticle-based DNA/RNA extraction systems using ferromagnet and silica. These technologies underpin IVD medical devices used in molecular diagnostics. During the global COVID-19 pandemic, this device and their technical field applications played a crucial role in the rapid detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 variants. Beyond COVID-19, Dr. Abhishek's research has extended to the development of ICMR validated and Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) approved nucleic acid extraction & molecular diagnostic platforms for a range of infectious diseases, including Monkeypox, Tuberculosis, Dengue, Chikungunya, Hepatitis B and C, HIV, Herpes Simplex Virus, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Cancer Biomarkers, and HLA-B27. Dr. Abhishek has actively participated in various national and international research projects funded by organizations such as the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), University Grants Commission (UGC), and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT). He has also contributed to phase-3 multicenter clinical trials for vaccine development.
