Dr Beverley Paterson is an epidemiologist who consults at a senior executive level in roles requiring high-level strategic engagement and influence with counterparts. She is looking for a meaningful role in public health that will utilise her extensive skill set and can be conducted remotely with multiple in-country visits. Working in developed and developing settings, she is a dynamic and versatile health specialist who has achieved significant results in the international health sector. She is an Honorary Associate Professor with the Australian National University and is an Academic Supervisor for the Australian field epidemiology training course. She works on health security, COVID-19 response, pandemic planning, workforce capacity development and field epidemiology. In her last position she was the Epidemiology and Surveillance Adviser to the Australia Indonesia Health Security Partnership. She supported the WHO COVID-19 response in the Northern Pacific and, in January 2020, finalised an infectious respiratory diseases emergency response plan for Western Australia. She consulted for the World Health Organization (WHO) on India's pandemic plan and worked with governments in Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan to improve health security, particularly around pandemic threats. She wrote the WHO Guidance for Surveillance during an Influenza Pandemic: 2017 update. She developed an All-Hazards Public Health Emergency Response Plan for the Pacific island, Nauru. Work locations have included Central Asia, India, Australia, Indonesia, various Pacific Islands, Papua New Guinea, Myanmar, England, Europe and West Africa. Dr Paterson has undertaken consultancies for numerous organisations including WHO HQ Geneva, WHO Europe, WHO AFRO, WHO India, WHO Papua New Guinea, WHO Fiji, the International Federation of the Red Cross, the Australian Red Cross, the Australian Department of Health, and UK’s Health Protection Agency (now Public Health England). She has worked on COVID-19, Ebola, dengue and pandemic influenza outbreaks. Experienced in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, Dr Paterson has a PhD (Surveillance/Epidemiology), a Masters in Applied Epidemiology, a Masters in Knowledge Management, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Health Promotion. She has published in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals including the British Medical Journal, New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet and Science. A CV can be provided on request.
