I am an experienced PhD. (Biochemistry/Molecular Biology) researcher with 10+ years postdoctoral experience in academic cancer research, and 5+ years in stem cell research. I am currently a faculty member of Harvard Medical School at the Boston Children's Hospital, USA. I have published over 20 peer-reviewed manuscripts (11 as first author) in journals including Nature, Cancer Research, Oncogene, Cell Metabolism, Molecular Endocrinology, Genes and Development, EMBO, amongst others. These total 1000+ citations overall. The primary focus of my career has been elucidating gene deregulation that leads to carcinogenesis (e.g. breast, colorectal, melanoma). From initial focus on particular transcription factors, and understanding of how they are controlled via signal transduction networks, to broader genomics-network bioinformatic analyses, I have gained a lot of insight through having the opportunity of working with some of the best people in science. My current focus is on cancer stem cells, within the group of Markus Frank (the discoverer of melanoma stem cells) and defining exactly what makes them carcinogenic relative to the non-carcinogenic "bulk" population of cells in a tumor. This also allows me to work on chemotherapy-resistance in cancer, and utilize patient-derived samples. Furthermore, we also work on normal physiologic stem cells from various sources with an eye to developing stem cell therapies. I believe my work will yield something clinically-relevant, and is not just "science for the sake of science".
