I have more than 15 years experience as a science communications professional. Working exclusively in-house until 2021, I have managed and led public engagement programmes, marketing, press and communications for some of the UK’s leading scientific institutions, including the British Science Association, UKRI, the Bevan Commission and Oxford University’s Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences where I was Head of Communications and responsible for overseeing all communications and educational marketing. My experience covers the full breadth of research communications, from leading institutional strategy development and navigating controversial topics, through to disseminating ground-breaking discoveries via the media, and developing accessible materials about complex science. I have led communications for world-leading clinical trials, designed and delivered stakeholder engagement activities, formed and managed in-house teams, and successfully integrated and deployed marketing programmes. I have a BSc in medical microbiology (University of Kent, UK) and hold postgraduate diplomas in science communication (Birkbeck, University of London) and public relations (Chartered Institute of Public Relations). I am an Accredited PR Practitioner with the Chartered Institute for Public Relations.
