I am a scientist and editor with a background of expertise in cell and molecular biology. I have worked on projects targeting understanding of various pathways involved in regulation of mitosis, emphasizing on cytoskeleton research. I completed my PhD in cell and molecular biology from the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology, Dortmund, Germany. During my time there, I was part of an international lab that focused on control of mitotic processes using a combination of genetic editing, advanced fluorescence microscopy and biochemistry techniques. I have worked extensively on mammalian cancer cells, embryonic stem cells, and have experience with differentiation of stem cells into neurons and 3D-cell culture. I have developed novel assays to perform quantitative cell biology in these systems using image analysis software like Imaris, Fiji and MATLAB. I have designed and presented scientific posters at numerous international conferences. I am skilled at making scientific figures and illustrations using Adobe Illustrator, MS-Powerpoint and Gimp. In the course of my PhD and postdoctoral research, I have published in several high-profile journals including Current Biology PMID:33333009, 33275894; Journal of Cell Biology PMID:31932847 and Life Science Alliance PMID:33293335. My time in an international working environment at the Max Planck Institute has exposed me to people of several cultures with whom I enjoy interacting. I have worked individually and been part of international projects that have reached successful completion. I have designed project strategies and co-supervised several undergraduate students for their theses, during which time I became proficient at quick comprehension of unexpected observations, subsequent change of approach and trouble-shooting. As Assistant Editor at Cactus, my editing experience is targeted towards facilitating research for authors with English as a second language, where I edit manuscripts for scientific content, English grammar, coherence and flow, formatting, and organizing articles for peer-review.
