I am a PhD physicist with experience in running condensed matter simulations, presenting and analysing data and writing scientific papers. During my PhD, I worked on a project based around the simulation of the movement of hydrogen through transition metal lattices to infer the effect it exerts on their mechanical properties. These simulations were primarily carried out with a tight-binding code, but some larger scale calculations were carried out with a bond order potential code and, later, another code of my own design that coupled these two models to exploit their respective strengths simultaneously. After my PhD, I continued this work for another year as a research associate. I then went onto work for a hydrogen fusion start-up company; the work has involved the simulation of fusion plasma with both equilibrium/transport and 3D magnetohydrodynamic codes, simulation of heating schemes and their effects on this plasma, and the research and development of the proposed reactor schematics and anticipated campaigns. An advantage of this position is that my role has been fairly broad: it has ranged between the research mentioned above to presenting to potential investors to budgeting/sourcing parts of these potential reactors from suppliers.
