I am a clinical neuropsychologist by training (MSc in Clinical Neuropsychology, Utrecht University, Utrecht, the Netherlands) and have a PhD in medicine (Department of Internal Medicine/Medical Psychology, VU Universtiy Medical Center, Amsterdam, the Netherlands). The PhD project was on the intersection between diabetes, neuroradiology, (neuro)psychology and vascular medicine, using a variaty of (neuro)psychological, vascular and cerebral imaging techniques in diabetes. Since receiving my PhD, as a post-doc and now as assistant professor in Brazil and Senior Visiting Research Fellow in the Netherlands, I have continued in this field of research which has resulted in publications in the highest ranking diabetes-specific journals (Diabetes Care/Diabetes/Diabetologia) and in important journals in the field of neuroimaging, neuroscience and neurology (e.g. Human Brain Mapping/Journal of Alzheimer's Disease/Neurobiology of Disease). I have also branched out to other neurological conditions, such as dementia and epilepsy, and to neurological expressions of other systemic diseases, such as HIV/AIDS. In my capacity as a Central Quality Reviewer, I participate in various clinical trials sponsored by pharmaceutical companies and other research organizations evaluating data quality and helping with material development. I am experienced in writing study protocols, grant proposals and scientific articles. I also have ample experience in medical statistics.
