Epidemiologist & Scientific Writer | Experience in global health, infectious disease, and disease mapping

My experience in research started in 2011 in a plant molecular biology laboratory at the University of Florida where the goal of my research project was to determine the role of various proteins in Arabidopsis thaliana plants, as well as the effects of altering light conditions on the growth and metabolic profile of broccoli sprouts. After graduating with my B.S. in Biology from the University of Florida, I took a position at the health department and enrolled in a Master in Public Health program to pursue a career in public health. While in graduate school at the Colorado School of Public Health, my studies focused on epidemiology and global health. I became involved in various projects in public and global health research, including projects on seasonal influenza, HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C surveillance as well as several projects in global health. For my MPH Capstone, I collaborated with the Center for Global Health at the University of Colorado examining the risk factors associated with neonatal mortality in the Trifinio region of Guatemala. I also completed a project with the International Center for Advanced Research and Applied Science, an organization that focuses on evaluation and research. At INCAAS, I studied the risk factors associated with albuminuria and chronic kidney disease (CKD) in a Lima cohort. While working with Insightformation, Inc. to research best practices, promising programs and strategies, and lessons learned, I also delved deeper into the nationwide opioid epidemic. As a Surveillance Epidemiologist and Data Evaluation Specialist at a local health department in Florida, I managed and analyzed infectious disease data. My responsibilities included performing daily infectious disease surveillance, analyzing data using Microsoft Excel and R, preparing surveillance reports, and mapping in ArcGIS. Additionally, I conducted program evaluation and quality improvement projects with division managers. I was also heavily involved in a local task force that aimed to combat the opioid epidemic. Prior to my current role, I worked as a public health specialist at the National Institute of Public Health in Poland where I mitigated the spread of COVID-19 on an international scale. Currently, I am an epidemiologist at the state of Washington, working on both chronic and infectious disease-related projects in the Medicaid population. While I am open to collaborating on various projects, my main interest is to contribute to global, women's/maternal and child, and mental health initiatives.
