I was born and raised in Italy where I completed my studies between University "La Sapienza" (B.S.) and University of Roma TRE (M.S., Ph.D.). I started to live abroad in 2009 when I moved to Hong Kong for a collaboration with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Since then, I have had the chance to carry on my scientific journey in three other countries, where I was exposed to different scientific approaches and different cultures. Since the beginning of my academic career, I have been involved in projects related to Synthetic Biology and RNA biology. In my last post-doctorate, I implemented a project to assemble a model for an RNA-based protocell starting from a ligase ribozyme and fatty acid vesicles. From there I provided a chemical environment, compatible with primordial conditions, in which both can coexist. In this context, I also studied, in-depth, the effect of confinement and molecular crowding on the activity of a ligase ribozyme. In my first post-doc, I initiated a project to verify if under prohibitive growth conditions Escherichia coli proceeds to the production of small regulatory RNAs from tRNAs, to respond to the stress conditions.
