I am a psychologist specialising in digital solutions for mental healthcare. I recently obtained my PhD from Imperial College London – this project explored the use of virtual reality exposure therapy for treating social anxiety in people who stutter. I am a highly skilled writer and am first author on several peer-reviewed papers. I have worked independently and with other academics to write literature reviews, on topics both within and outside of my area of expertise. I am also well-versed in liaising with clients and stakeholders to gather expert insights and produce recommendations. For my PhD I developed collaborative relationships with speech therapists, stuttering experts and people who stutter to help guide the design and development of my novel social anxiety treatment. I have a strong background in experimental psychology, and the use of rigorous scientific methods. Over nine years working in world-leading academic institutions, I have designed and conducted many experiments, to answer a range of research questions. This includes a randomised controlled pilot trial which I conducted for my PhD. I am also experienced in using a variety of statistical methods, including multilevel models. I am particularly interested in applying academic insights to policy-making. Working with the Open Innovation Team within the UK Government, I provided academic consultancy to policy teams across government. As part of this role, I liaised with clients to define policy project goals, conducted interviews with relevant academics, reviewed relevant literature, and synthesised findings in a report that presented clear evidence-informed policy recommendations. This position was funded by the Imperial Policy Forum.
