I am a chemical engineer and researcher working on low-carbon technologies that improve the global environment and human life. My current research focuses on process design, process simulation (Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and economic feasibility assessments of carbon capture technologies, carbon dioxide utilisation processes, biorefinery systems and waste-to-energy technologies. During my PhD I carried out techno-economic design studies of the most promising thermochemical process routes for the production of 2nd generation transport biofuels. Throughout my career, I have led and coordinated research projects on sustainable technologies (bioenergy, waste-to-energy), including a collaborative project with industry which focused on the production of heavy fuel oil from waste plastic. I have established a reputation in the international research community as evidenced by invited talks at seminars and conferences in the USA and the UK and my appointment by the European Commission to act as an expert evaluator for applications for funding under the 2015 and 2016 Horizon 2020 Low-Carbon Energy calls. The main aim of my work is to determine the economic and technical boundaries of sustainable energy technologies via process analysis, process simulation and economic feasibility studies.
