プロフィール概要

I´m a Senior Scientist with a strong background in Translational Immunology. My main interest is the research and development of new strategies in Immunotherapy. I received my PhD degree in Biology from the University of Vigo (Spain) where I generated fully human monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) to human B cells using transgenic mice. Since 2004, I have developed my research career in both academia and industry. I was a post-doctoral fellow at UCL and Imperial College London, working in immunotherapy of Multiple Myeloma and antibody targeted photodynamic therapy of tumour vasculature, respectively. I joined UCB Pharma Ltd to develop a strategy to discover tumour-associated antigens from the natural anti-tumor B cell response. Prior to joining GSK in 2017, I worked as a senior scientist at Facundo Batista’s lab (CRUK/Francis Crick Institute) to develop an in vitro activation strategy to generate therapeutic mAbs from healthy individuals which resulted in the creation of the start-up BliNK Therapeutics. As a scientific investigator at GSK, I have focused on B cell biology and its applications in therapeutic antibody discovery and target discovery and validation. I have been responsible for the evaluation and implementation of microfluidic platforms for high-throughput single B cell screening and I have also led antibody discovery campaigns. During a secondment on the Immunology Research Unit I have developed a platform to integrate single B cell transcriptomics with antibody repertoire and binding analyses, a powerful tool not only to identity potential therapeutic targets in autoimmune diseases and cancer, but also to accelerate vaccine research and antibody discovery.
