Over the last 30 years I have been involved in nearly every aspect of geomatics, including land survey, GIS, cartography, remote sensing and photogrammetry. I have worked and studied in the UK, in Africa, and in North America, in both the public and private sectors. Most recently I have been involved in coordinating and carrying out R&D projects in the new and rapidly-growing field of UAV-based photogrammetry. For my PhD, my research interests involved the integrated use of multiple geomatics techniques for the purpose of mapping and change monitoring. I have worked with both aerial and ground-based photogrammetry, using it for both surface modeling and feature tracking. In recent years, much of my work has involved photography obtained from both fixed-wing and multi-rotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), which I have used for the generation of surface models and orthophotos. I have also made extensive use of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) interferometry for glacial motion analysis in the Canadian Arctic, combining radar images from multiple sources to obtain the full 3D glacier motion field.
