I am Associate Professor of English and Cultural Studies, and Senior Research Associate at the University of Gibraltar. I have a Ph.D in Moroccan Cultural Studies from the University of Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah, Fez, Morocco. My research interests center around cultural studies, colonial discourse analysis, postcolonial literature, Film Studies, discourse analysis on colonial, postcolonial postcards, fashion photography, travel writing, popular music and culture, teaching and education. I have published three monographs titled: Recollecting History beyond Borders: Captives, Acrobats, Dancers and the Moroccan-American Narrative of Encounters (2014); and Larbi Batma, Nass el Ghiwane and Postcolonial Music in Morocco (2016); The Construction of Marginalities and Narrative Imaginary in Mohamed Zafzaf’s Texts: The Postcolony in Secrets and Intimacies (2022). I am involved in research issues about migration in textual and visual narratives, and I am working extensively on archives about Morocco’s encounter with 19th-century Europe and America through acrobatic and artistic performances during the World Fair Expositions. I am also involved in research collaborations with scholars and researchers across Europe and the USA about research on North African literature, culture and identity.
