Currently I am working as a Visiting Lecturer teaching Biochemistry. I have to constantly update my lecture notes depending on the new findings. I always read and research on the the topics that have to be taught. While being a Post Doctoral Fellow, I worked to understand the molecular details of the interaction of NOD like receptor protein and bacterial cell wall. The protein was expressed in insect cell culture. So I had to learn vector designing and transfection related to insect cells. Also I was able to learn extracting and purifying techniques for the protein. Routine measurements of CD analysis and fluorescence analysis were performed. During my graduate studies my research project was to work with an enzyme called Adenylosuccinate Lyase, where I had to extract using Ni resin and purify the enzyme from E.coli bacteria. Therefore, I had to learn the skills of biotechnology such as vector designing, transformation and PCR technique. Also I had to perform routine activity tests, CD measurements, fluorescence measurements and gel electrophoresis. I was extensively trained in scientific writing, which include report writing and journal article writing. Also I was trained in presentation making skills, MS Word programs, Sigma Plot and data analysis. In both cases I was trained to make buffers, culture media, gels for gel electrophoresis, Extensive amount of literature reading was carried out for both projects in order to get a deep understanding of the problem and techniques. Weekly discussions with the adviser was held and I had to present monthly during the group meeting. I was trained to design experiments, perform and modify accordingly.
