I have a Ph.D. in Art History, specializing in nineteenth-century French painting. In my dissertation, I argued that theories of masculinity and the body that transcended France's regional divides heavily influenced the ways that the early Impressionist painter Frédéric Bazille (1841-1870) chose to depict human bodies in his paintings. Bazille, who hailed from the southern, Protestant city of Montpellier, had also attended medical school, almost completing his medical degree, before choosing to become a painter, and he died at an early age after volunteering to fight in the Franco-Prussian War. To complete this project, I read widely in histories and theories of medicine and the body, as well as femininity and masculinity, and developed expertise in medical and military narratives in the history of France. I complemented these broad histories with archival research in Bazille's hometown and in Paris, where he moved as a young man. Since finishing my Ph.D., I have served as an AmeriCorps Member in a program that places historians and museum experts in local history organizations to help them build their capacity--to provide them with resources to do more, do it more effectively, and serve more people from all walks of life. I have turned my experience in archival research and historical writing toward public history and policy development projects for my host site, the Oberlin Heritage Center, and I have served as a consultant to numerous local history organizations across Northeast Ohio in the areas of social media management, volunteer recruitment, program development, and collections care. I hope to put my experience in writing and editing texts for all audiences to use for Kolabtree's clients. I taught expository writing at the college level during graduate school, and I have since privately tutored students in essay writing and test preparation. I am especially skilled at talking people through their ideas to ensure that they are communicating them clearly and to the full extent of their potential, an approach that I also embrace in my own writing.
