I always had a profound interested in the natural sciences. I decided to complete my pre-doctoral studies in physics being fascinated by the subject and willing to obtain the mathematical and reasoning skills to understand nature. At the end of my master, I had the possibility to collaborate with biologists developing an X-ray based cancer therapy, and I immediately decided that biology would be the right direction in which continue my scientific path. During my PhD, I decided to work on a high-risk project developing high-throughput and quantitative techniques which really benefited from my years as physicist. I learnt how to deal with multiple contemporary tasks, re-think and re-invent well established experimental techniques to obtain high data flow and develop novel techniques to address experimental challenges. I successfully initiated my transition into being a biologist fueled by modesty and perseverance, and by intensively collaborating with my team mates and colleagues. Now, in the lab of Dr. Erik Ingelsson at Stanford, I am engaged as postdoc in identifying and validate new candidate genes for insulin resistance using high-throughput screening techniques based on genome wide CRISPR/CAS9 knockout libraries in human and murine models. I am taking a leading role as well as lab manager in building our new wet lab, overseeing its future relocation and daily necessity for me and my colleagues.
