My professional background is in publishing, writing, university teaching, and social sciences. In 2013, I was awarded a PhD in sociology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. My research specialization is in health social movements and sociology of health and illness. My secondary areas are in aging and life course, gender, and environmental sociology. I am primarily a qualitative researcher, but I also have thorough training in quantitative and mixed methods research. My work deals with medical marijuana use and marijuana industry/policy developments, with a focus on use at midlife and sociological theory. Other work includes research on social movements centered on health, gender and health, and the uses of all forms of complementary and alternative medicine. I am an experienced university instructor with a Certificate in College Teaching. I worked for nearly 10 years in publishing prior to graduate school, and earned a graduate certificate in publishing at the University of Denver's Publishing Institute in 2012. My ongoing interests include digital learning tools and technology, which I have used in the classroom, in my position as a content developer at Cengage Learning, and now in my position as an instructional designer at Mt. San Antonio College. I shine at complex project management and have a passion for ideas and their thoughtful expression in all media. A love for writing and story links my interests together. A natural leader, I offer creative vision, logical coordination, and a wide-ranging set of skills in editing, writing, social science research, teaching, and technology.
