I feel that clear and concise communication is vital in scientific endeavours. My experience working globally, across disciplines and in various academic, industrial and medical sectors, gives me the ability to achieve this clarity in my work.

I am currently working in drug discovery for an anti-infectives company that is developing novel antibiotics designed to help address the worldwide healthcare crisis of rising antimicrobial resistance. I find this a fascinating subject and it draws on the microbiology and management skills I have gained over my career.  I am a programme leader for a large pipeline and as such have to be very organised, diligent and work to tight deadlines.

I have 17 years of experience in infectious disease research including development of novel diagnostics for vCJD and tuberculosis, HIV vaccine development and malaria molecular pathway research.   Along with this practical experience, I have had extensive experience with writing scientific papers, grant proposals, oral and poster presentations, editing and proof-reading work and feel I am able to offer assistance and advice to others who may need it in this area.

My PhD project was a molecular microbiology project using next-generation sequencing to investigate the indoor microbiome of a hospital. This was able to provide valuable knowledge of transmission of infection in healthcare settings.

I hold a PRINCE2 practitioner qualification, have undertaken field work in a Developing Country and consider myself to be multi-disciplinary and adaptable. I am also a STEM Ambassador, hoping to inspire the next generation of young scientists!
