Cargo crowding at actin-rich regions along axons causes local traffic jams in neurons • Established, for the first time, specific contribution of macro-molecular crowding in initiating local traffic jams of synaptic vesicles in neurons of both C. elegans and D. melanogaster using time lapse imaging •Examined the implications of these traffic jams as dynamic reservoirs of vesicle along the neuronal process using behavioral paradigms in C. elegans Regulation of cargo motion at stalled vesicles is important for maintaining cargo flow • Investigated role of stationary cargo along the neuronal process in regulation of axonal transport • Used neurodegenrative disease models to establish a correlation between regulation of axonal transport and disease pathology •Worked in collaboration with a team of physicists from IMSc, Chennai to model axonal transport and predict the consequences of perturbed cargo regulation at stationary cargo Organization of microtubule and actin cytoskeleton along the neuronal process in differentiated neurons of C. elegans • Used candidate gene approach to find potential cross-linkers of microtubules and actin in differentiated neurons of C. elegans • Performed various pharmacological drug treatments to understand the interactions between two cytoskeletal components Psychological stressors induced disease susceptibility • Conducted a pilot study to develop new tools combining both quantitative and qualitative methods to determine the stress levels in random human population • Used metabolomic and proteomic analysis for biomarker discovery • Designed a questionnaire to determine stress level of individuals and associate it with potential psychological stressors Short term Projects • Reviewed roles of Indian Psychology in Psychotherapy • Reviewed behavioral and molecular studies related to effects of psychological stress in various disease conditions • Isolated and identified environmental microflora • Investigated intracellular trafficking of S. aureus in murine macrophages
