I have over 20 years of both academic and industrial research experience, covering a large variety of materials, their properties, modelling, characterization, applications, synthesis and manufacturing technologies. Some materials I have researched (and their properties implied by their names): pigments, colorants, lusters, phosphors, glazes, glass, porcelain stoneware, cermets, solid electrolites, ceramic slips, screen-printing inks, HF dielectric (LTCC-s) and magnetic (garnet) materials, photonic crystals, metamaterials, refractories,PTC materials, low-CTE materials and thermal-shock resistant materials. Modelling work: crystal field theory applied to color arising from transition elements; Analytical modelling and FDTD numerical modelling of optical properties of nanocomposites and optical nanoantennas. Modelling of crystal structures (including photonic crystals) and their diffraction patterns. Modelling of metamaterials. Characterization techniques (hands on experience): SEM/EDX, optical microscopy, confocal microscopy, TG/DSC, IR and Raman spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, rheometry, thermography, dilatometry, tribology, densitometery; Measurements and interpretation of zeta potential, impedance, particle size (by laser scattering), mechanical strength, hardness, roughness, chromatic coordinates... Some applications: ceramic tiles, sanitaryware, anticorrosion, antifriction and wear-resistant coatings, SOFC/SOEC, HF-electronics, gas sensors, self-regulating heaters, materials for 3D printing, screen-printing pastes, archaeology, etc. Synthesis: solid-state reactions, Pechini method, sol-gel . Manufacturing technologies: mould-casting, tape-casting, screen-printing, electrophoresis, electrolysis, spraying.
