Recent research projects: BHF Funded Study (Oct 2013-present): I am currently working as a postdoctoral research associate studying 'The Role of Complement Dysregulation and Activation in Atherosclerosis'. In addition, I am working on a large scale population-based cohort project in collaboration with Dr Clive Gregory and Professor John Gallacher (Oxford University). Experience gained: Judging poster presentations at the annual 'Infection, Immunity and Inflammation Interdisciplinary Research Group' meeting at the School of Medicine, Cardiff University; peer reviewed a manuscript for 'Atherosclerosis' journal. ISSF Research Fellow (funded by Wellcome Trust (Oct 2012-present)): Independently led a study into 'The Role of Complement in Lipid Metabolism and Cardiovascular Disease'. Experience gained: Project and budget management; cross collaborative networking with other independent investigators; liaising and delegating work to medical clinicians who are involved with the research; patient-led research; big-data statistical analysis; lecturing 2nd year medical students in 'Immunology and Cardiovascular Disease' at Cardiff University. Translational Laboratory Research (Professor I Weeks and Professor P Morgan (Oct 2010-Sep 2012)): Working as a postdoctoral research associate on two projects: developing 'Bladder Cancer Diagnostics' (funded by NIHR/Morvus Technology) and 'Characterisation of Therapeutic Complement Factor H' (funded by Baxter Healthcare). Experienced gained: report writing; translational research and presenting data to a wide audience including surgeons, research and development director and other members of a pharmaceutical company and patent officers. Qualifications: October 2007-July 2011: PhD "The role of complement and complement regulatory proteins during the progression of atherosclerosis in apoE deficient mice” Institute of Infection and Immunity, Cardiff University October 1996-September 2000: BSc (Hons) in Applied Biological Sciences at the University of the West of England, Bristol: 2:1 Grants won: ISSF Wellcome Trust Fellowship (£44,000.00) William Morgan Thomas Travel Fund For publications prior to 2006 please search for Ruth D Davies.
