I recently submitted my PhD thesis titled "Structure-based Drug Design for NADPH oxidases". This project involved mutational analysis to elucidate key similarities/differences between the various members of the NADPH oxidase family, with a view to providing more indepth information to those wishing to develop specific NADPH oxidase inhibitors (NADPH oxidases are an enzyme family that convert molecular oxygen into reactive oxygen species. They are found across the majority of cells and tissues in the body and have been implicated in a vast array of diseases such as CVD, diabetes, fibrosis and cancer). Prior to my PhD, I worked in Singapore as a research associate at Duke-NUS graduate medical school where I studied the role of tryptophan hydroxylase-2 (TPH2) in the development and progression of mood disorders. Following the completion of my Master's degree, studying the effect of Vitamin D on metastatic breast cancers (University of Notre Dame, USA), I spent 3 years working in the biotech industry, as both a research scientist and technical specialist in the IVD sector. My experience spans a number of different scientific disciplines, giving me a wide understanding of various pathophysiological processes, and allowing me to make associations (both scientific and professional) across disciplines.
