After graduating with an honours degree in zoology, I completed a Masters course on Molecular Parasitology and Vector Biology, and a PhD thesis on Molecular Parasitology. My thesis led to the publication of three papers. I then worked in Queen's University, as a research fellow for the Multiple Sclerosis society, which led to me publishing the results in the Journal of Neuropathology and Applied Neurobiology. I have also worked at QUB as a MS research laboratory technician. I later moved to the commercial sector, working as a research and development scientist and molecular biologist. I was responsible for validating and optimising clinical chemistry reagents, and making recombinant proteins for research use. Most recently, I have worked as a Microbiologist in a local brewery. During my career, I gained extensive experience with designing and optimising experiments, literature research, DNA database searching, interpreting results and writing and editing scientific articles. I am currently studying 'Writing in the Sciences', an online course from Stanford University, to further develop my writing skills. I can write and edit in both UK and US English as required.
