Currently a senior postdoctoral researcher in the Centre for Experimental Pathogen Host Research at University College Dublin School of Medicine. Designed, tested and implemented a Metagenomic Next-Generation Sequencing Workflow for passive surveillance of emerging and reemerging viruses in Ireland. Performed targeted surveillance and phylogenetic characterisation of viruses and bacteria internationally. Modelled workplace environments in controlled laboratory settings to assess risk factors in SARS-CoV-2 transmission and developed protocol for whole genome sequencing from positive antigen tests. Identified host factors involved in virus replication using Molecular and Cell Biology approaches. Applied proteomic and imaging methods to characterise viral proteins. Written, peer-reviewed and edited published scientific articles. Written several successful grant applications. STEM Outreach activities in Schools including for Deaf students. Event Organisation including Conferences, Public Engagement Events and Interdisciplinary Events.
