A Materials Specialist with an expertise in Composite materials

As a Materials engineer from Cranfield University, UK with an expertise in composite materials my vision is to work in the field of innovative materials to come up with solutions that can help with current issues like rising environmental pollution due to use of plastics. I am currently working on developing biodegradable materials for sustainable applications. My interest lies in developing a material that is sustainable and the application can be scaled up to be used on a large scale. I have worked on a broad range of materials which includes different polymers, carbon fiber composites, bioplastics and biodegradable materials. As a masters student at Cranfield University , I worked extensively on composite materials. For my Masters thesis I designed and developed a Lightweight piezoelectric actuator for Micro air vehicle project . This project involved designing, manufacturing and characterization of piezoelectric composite actuators for flapping wing micro air vehicles. Finite element analysis was used to design the piezoelectric composite actuators. Multiple models assuming different configurations were designed. The designed actuators were then manufactured using vacuum bagging process and tested in the lab. These actuators comprised of unidirectional carbon fibre/epoxy, woven glass fibre/epoxy and piezoelectric materials in sandwiched condition. Another project was to develop a composite camera housing for military grade camera enclosures . The project objective was to investigate lightweight composite materials to replace aluminium . My contributions were: • Tool design and Trial moulding development using Sheet moulding compound(SMC) • Comparison of the compression moulding process using SMC, UD and woven carbon fiber prepregs. • Material characterization using British Standards. Performed Tensile test, 3-point bending test, Drop weight impact test, water absorption test and determination of CTE using the Thermomechanical analyser (TMA).
