I am an expert researcher in the field of the bio-nano interface. Having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biotechnology, my undying passion to understand the material interface with biology at the nano-scale to design new biomaterial paradigms for clinical translation motivated me to pursue my Masters in Nanoscience. Having done my masters at a hospital-based research center, I understood the importance of translation of medicine from bedside to bench and back. This motivated me to pursue my PhD in developing clinically translatable biomaterials solutions for dentistry.  Over the past 4 years, I have successfully managed to gain research funding of over USD 20,000 from various funding bodies.

With regard to my professional experience, I have worked as a clinical research coordinator, research assistant, and research intern at different facilities. After my bachelors, I was keen on experiencing the industrial environment. And so, I worked as an intern at an oncology API drug manufacturing companys. This helped me gain knowledge in cGMP standards and the working environment. My masters’ research focused on synthesis of drug-loaded injectable coacervate hydrogels to enhance angiogenesis. Following my masters’, as a Research Assistant, I worked on various projects related to cell-biomaterial interactions for therapeutic outcomes. I was involved in mentoring masters’ projects which includes the synthesis of in situ chitosan-tannic acid-based adhesive hydrogels, in situ Chitin-Fibrin Nanocomposite gel with antibacterial and hemostatic properties, fabrication of carrageenan-whitlockite based porous hydrogels, generation of carrageenan bio-ink for 3D bioprinting of vascular grafts and fabrication micropatterned hydrogels for hiPSC culture. I also served as Clinical Research Coordinator for Clinical Trials, where I worked closely with pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer and Stelis Biopharma, supporting their R&D of injectable formulations. I was involved in the development of hyaluronic acid (HA)- human synovial fluid blended gels (Stelis Biopharma) for osteoarthritis and their rheological characterization. With Pfizer, I worked on reverse engineering competitor products’ viscoelastic characteristics.

My PhD thesis focused on the development of biomaterials for applications in orodental reconstruction. In this regard, I have worked extensively on the chemical modifications of biomaterials, rheological analysis, and material characterization. I have expertise in mammalian cell culture and cell-based assays. I also have experience in working with in vivo models and performing qualitative and quantitative analysis using microCT and histology. During my PhD I did my placement at  3D cell culture technologies, where I was involved in R&D of functionalized biopolymers to develop click hydrogels and assisted in manufacturing scale-up and production efficiency optimization.
