As Ph.D. student first, and now as Post Doctoral Fellow, I have worked on the preclinical and clinical development of advanced biological medicinal therapies. In particular, my principal aim is to evaluate the safety of a gene therapy approach for the treatment of beta-thalassemia. I have a sound knowledge of gene therapy strategy, beta-thalassemia and hemoglobinopathy, but also hematopoietic stem cell biology. My Ph.D. project was focused on mapping genes and pathways to preserve hematopoietic stem cell activity upon viral-mediated gene transfer. This experience gave me a broad knowledge of microarray analysis. Moreover, I had the chance to participate in the design, data collection and analysis of two preclinical studies performed according to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) guidelines.
