I currently work as a freelance science editor for several international publishing companies, and I am looking for additional clients and companies to increase my workload. Briefly, from 2008 to 2018 I obtained my PhD (2008−2011) and worked as a postdoctoral researcher (2012−2018) in the field of astrophysics. I held postdoctoral fellowships in Iceland, Spain and Japan, and was granted ones in Chile and the USA, which I declined. I obtained my PhD at the Astrophysics Research Institute, John Moores Liverpool University in Liverpool, UK, and I received an Undergraduate Masters in Physics (MPhys) degree from the University of Sussex, Brighton, UK. I have 15 first-author papers and have been co-author on more than 50 papers published in the very best peer-reviewed journals (Nature, Nature Astronomy, the Astrophysical Journal, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, Astronomy & Astrophysics). My work has been cited more than 4100 times. I was a leading expert in my field, I have published review articles, won several academic grants and fellowships, and given invited review talks at international conferences. My fields of research were related to cosmology and explosive transients, including gamma-ray bursts, supernovae, and the study of the electromagnetic counterparts to gravitational waves. Indeed, I collaborated and published academic papers with the LIGO research group that won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2017. In addition to my academic background, I also have experience as a full time science editor from my role at the Charlesworth Group in Huddersfield, UK. This role encompassed many roles, including project management related to book publication, which involved duties related to copyediting, developmental editing and proofreading books and academic manuscripts. Moreover, since 2014 I have freelanced as a science editor of academic manuscripts and text books for various companies. On average, I bring between 15−20 manuscripts (60,000−100,000 words) written by non-native English speakers to publishable standard each month. Additionally, I am a freelance popular science writer, and have published feature articles in magazines such as BBC’s The Sky at Night, Astronomy Now and the Mercury Magazine. From these roles, I have obtained intimate knowledge of the entire academic publishing industry, both as a prolific author and as an editor. I understand the peer-review process intimately and what is required to produce high-quality academic papers. I am a consummate professional and have an excellent work ethic, organizational skills, and respectful and patient interpersonal skills.
